Dr Azad Moopen
A doctor, businessman, philanthropist, educationist and visionary, Dr. Azad Moopen is the founder of Aster DM Healthcare – the fastest growing healthcare group in the GCC and Africa. A gold medallist in MBBS with MD in General Medicine, Dr.Azad Moopen worked as a lecturer in Calicut Medical College before relocating to Dubai. And began his incredible journey, from a single-doctor clinic to a healthcare empire that’s worth more than USD 1.1 Billion now. Operating under the brand names Aster, Medcare, Access, MIMS (Malabar Institute of Medical Sciences) and DM WIMS (Waynad Institute of Medical Sciences), the group employs over 13,000 people and has 290 facilities including hospitals, clinics and pharmacies that provide world-class medical care to millions of people every year.
A philanthropist who has pledged 20% of his wealth for the well being of those in need, he has initiated several innovative corporate social responsibility programmes through Dr.Moopen’s Foundation and DM Foundation. These programmes, which primarily focus on healthcare, include free rural health camps, free community dialysis centres, mobile clinics for early diseases detection and cancer screening units, cardiac care and cardiac surgeries for adults and children and village adoptions for empowerment of women and children.
The founder of DM WIMS – a medical college of international standards and MIMS Academy Trust – an institution that provides medical education to over 1000 students through courses ranging from Post Graduation to Diploma, he promotes quality education, which he believes is the foundation of a better society and in turn, a better future.
Dr. Azad Moopen is also the Chairman of Credence School, Dubai, Vice Chairman of three schools in Saudi Arabia and SAFI (Social Advancement Foundation of India), Executive Trustee of the Horizon International School - Calicut and founder of MA Moopen Memorial School for Special Needs for the differently abled.
The country honoured Dr. Azad Moopen with Padma Shri in the year 2011 for his distinguished services to the society. He has also received Pravasiya Bharati Samman from the Government of India, Best Doctor Award instituted by the Government of Kerala, Arab Health Award and the prestigious Arabian Business Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to the healthcare industry in the Middle East.
