A philanthropist who has pledged 20% of his wealth for the well being of those in need, he has initiated several innovative corporate social responsibility programmes through Dr.Moopen’s Foundation and DM Foundation. These programmes, which primarily focus on healthcare, include free rural health camps, free community dialysis centres, mobile clinics for early diseases detection and cancer screening units, cardiac care and cardiac surgeries for adults and children and village adoptions for empowerment of women and children.
The founder of DM WIMS – a medical college of international standards and MIMS Academy Trust – an institution that provides medical education to over 1000 students through courses ranging from Post Graduation to Diploma, he promotes quality education, which he believes is the foundation of a better society and in turn, a better future.
Dr. Azad Moopen is also the Chairman of Credence School, Dubai, Vice Chairman of three schools in Saudi Arabia and SAFI (Social Advancement Foundation of India), Executive Trustee of the Horizon International School - Calicut and founder of MA Moopen Memorial School for Special Needs for the differently abled.
The country honoured Dr. Azad Moopen with Padma Shri in the year 2011 for his distinguished services to the society. He has also received Pravasiya Bharati Samman from the Government of India, Best Doctor Award instituted by the Government of Kerala, Arab Health Award and the prestigious Arabian Business Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to the healthcare industry in the Middle East.

Alisha Moopen is currently the Deputy Managing Director of Aster DM Healthcare. Having joined the company as a Director in 2013, she is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and development of the company, and notably spearheading the expansion of the group into new markets.

Alisha was recently elected by World Economic Forum as a Young Global Leader to join the class of 2018. Recognizing her past work in healthcare, she has been inducted into a 5-year program with like-minded people who are committed and passionate to tackle the main challenges of the world today, with healthcare being one of them. She was also recognized as one of the Top 100 World’s Greatest Leaders in Asia and GCC in 2018. Forbes Middle East magazine has selected Alisha as one of the Top Next Generation Indian Leaders in 2018. She also won Khaleej Times’ Emerging Leaders Award 2018 for Healthcare. She is a Chartered Accountant from the ICAS (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland) and worked earlier with Ernst & Young.
She graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with distinction in Finance & Accounting.
Alisha’s philosophy in life is ‘Healthiness is Happiness’. She wants to enable quality healthcare across the globe through treating people with compassion, precision and excellence. She is dedicated to the cause of women empowerment and mental health. She believes in the diversity of workforce, strength in differences and focused on improving the glass ceilings at work for women. She was instrumental in launching the Women in Leadership programme at Aster DM Healthcare which empowers talented and capable female employees with training and growth opportunities, to shape them for leadership roles. She is also an active philanthropist, being a trustee of Aster DM Foundation and involved in social welfare through Aster Volunteers programme which bridges the gap between people who would like to help with those in need.
Alisha is dedicated to ensure that humanity leverages on advances in science as well as personal re-engineering of self, ranging from lifestyle choices to dealing with the external environment, to staying happy and healthy, both physically and mentally. She believes using technology can enable better health outcomes for population management through precision medicine, connected care and AI.
Dr. Harish Pillai
CEO - Aster Hospitals & Clinics, India
A doctor with exceptional leadership skills and many years of experience as a healthcare administrator in leading national and international hospitals, Dr. Harish Pillai joined the Aster DM Healthcare Group as the CEO of Aster Medcity, Kochi in the year 2013. In 2015, Dr. Harish Pillai was promoted as the Cluster Head of Aster DM Healthcare in Kerala, which includes Aster Medcity Kochi, Kerala’s first JCI accredited 670-bed quaternary care hospital; Aster MIMS Calicut, India’s first NABH accredited 600-bed tertiary care hospital; Aster MIMS Kottakkal, a 200-bed NABH accredited secondary care hospital and DM WIMS, Wayanad, a 575-bed NABH accredited hospital and medical college. As the Cluster Head, Dr. Harish Pillai is also responsible for commissioning the upcoming green-field projects of the group.
After completing his graduation in medicine from University of Mangalore, Dr. Harish Pillai obtained a Masters in Hospital Administration (MHA) from Apollo Institute of Hospital Administration, Hyderabad, India and an MBA in International Healthcare & Hospital Management from the Frankfurt School of Finance and Management, Frankfurt, Germany.
His previous stints include being the CEO of Egypt’s biggest JCI accredited private tertiary care Hospital- As Salam International Hospital, Cairo, for 7 years and the Director of Belhoul Speciality Hospital, Dubai
