Uterine Fibroids can be cured without surgery. Fibroid is one of the commonest tumours in females, with the disease burden ranging from an asymptomatic female to a female with a poor quality of life with pain, bleeding, heaviness of abdomen and back pain. Although the true incidence of fibroids is unknown owing to the high prevalence of asymptomatic patients, it is generally reported as 20% to 40% among those of reproductive age. Uterine Fibroid Embolisation is an innovation which has come up in the past decade for the purpose of treating uterine fibroids non surgically. However this has been traditionally done via the femoral access which has its own disadvantages of increased procedure time, double puncture if both sides need to be embolised, increased radiation exposure and more complications of puncture site. We have employed a newer technique of doing the same procedure via a radial access and this involves a single puncture even if both sides are to be embolised and there is reduced procedure time and reduced radiation exposure incurred. Impact of the procedure on people Patients who undergo uterine fibroid embolization typically notice decreased bleeding, pelvic pain and pressure, and other symptoms of uterine fibroids, as well as an overall significant improvement in physical and emotional well-being. As a minimally invasive alternative treatment option to surgery, the quick, outpatient procedure means our patients experience a prompt return to normal activities. There is no surgical removal of the uterus and virtually no blood loss.
